So, when it comes to picnic season, I don’t suddenly become one of those people who’s got a perfect checkered blanket and a color-coded cooler ready to go. That’s not my vibe. But I do like being prepared in a way that still feels easy. Like, I don’t want to be flustered packing up food to take outside—whether it’s the park, the porch, or just opening the windows and pretending I went somewhere.

Everything I’m sharing here is stuff I’ve actually used and liked. It’s not a random list. I picked each thing based on what I’ve needed when I’m trying to make summer food feel a little less chaotic. I don’t buy pre-packaged snacks, so a lot of this is about containers and tools that help me bring my own stuff without everything leaking, crumbling, or making me feel like I need ten hands just to carry it all.

And I’m not lugging giant coolers around either—I go for small, foldable, functional things. The goal is to feel put together without overdoing it. Like, reusable snack bags that don’t take up space, a jar that won’t spill dressing all over your bag, or even just a tiny cast iron pan that I can throw something in and pop in the oven earlier in the day and pack it up later without a mess. I like pieces that move easily from kitchen to outside without needing a whole system to make them work.

These are all products that I’ve used myself, things I know make sense for the way I prep, bake, and pack food. If you’re looking for stuff that doesn’t make picnic season feel like a full production, these are the five I’d recommend starting with.

Ikea 365+ Glass Jar with lid (57oz)

view:

Yes, to glass jars that don’t leak. Perfect for tossing in a quick layered salad or cookie bites (because yes). The wide-mouth kind with twist-on lids? Always reliable. Plus, they stack.

Klotpil Insulated Cooler bag Ikea

An insulated bag that’s actually cute. I’m not lugging around a boxy lunchbox. I go for something soft, foldable, and not embarrassing. Bonus if it holds cold packs and doesn’t weigh a ton.

Fornuft 20-piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set

A set of cute reusable utensils, so you’re not that person. I’m not into bringing plastic forks from takeout bags. A little set of reusable utensils—wood, metal, or whatever your vibe is—makes the whole thing feel more thoughtful. And they don’t clink around if you wrap them in a tea towel, just saying.

Filfisk Multi Colored 3-piece Resealable Bag Set

Silicone Snack Bags that make me feel put together. They’re reusable, easy to rinse out, and look oddly chic with dried mango or brownie bites inside. It’s one of those things that makes you feel competent.

Lodge 6-1/2 Inch Cast Iron Pre-Seasoned Skillet

This one’s extra—but hear me out. Toss this into a grill or bonfire setup, and you’ve got a gooey, skillet-style cookie situation ready to impress. Also? It looks cute in photos.

That’s pretty much it. Nothing over the top—just a few things that make packing up food feel less like a job and more like something I might actually enjoy. I’m not trying to reinvent summer. I just want to step outside, eat something I made, and not be annoyed by the process. If any of these help you do the same, even better.

Gluten-Free Apricot Thumbprint Cookies

“That rare feeling of being able to enjoy something delicious without worrying about gluten, soy, or additives.”
